Tired Eyes? Here’s What Really Works for Under-Eye Ageing

March 23, 2025

Wherever we are, eye contact is a powerful way to connect—whether it’s for romance, business, or simply empathizing with friends. It’s become a crucial part of our daily interactions. In the real world, there’s no Instagram filter or perfect Zoom lighting to hide behind, so it’s no surprise that many of our clients are concerned with how their eyes look at first glance. The skin around our eyes is delicate and thin, making it prone to several aging concerns. Here’s a quick guide to the most common under-eye issues and how we address them at MyAesthetics.

The Problem: Dark Circles

Often caused by lack of sleep or genetics, dark circles can make the skin around your eyes appear much darker than the rest of your face.

The Solution: PRFM (Platelet Rich Fibrin Matrix) Therapy

We use your own platelet-rich growth factors, injecting them into the affected area to stimulate collagen production and thicken the skin. Typically, we recommend 2-3 treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart, to start, or until you’re satisfied with the results. The effects improve over the following weeks and generally last 1-2 years.

The Problem: Skin Texture or Lack of Elasticity

Small bumps or crepey, loose skin are common signs of aging since the skin around your eyes is significantly thinner than the rest of your face.

The Solution: PRFM (Platelet Rich Fibrin Matrix) Therapy

Similar to treating dark circles, PRFM stimulates collagen production to thicken the skin and restore its structure. We suggest 2-3 treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart to begin, or until you’re happy with the outcome. The downtime is minimal, with mild swelling, bruising, or redness being the most common side effects.

The Problem: Hollowing

As you lose muscle mass around the eyes, the area can appear hollow or more skeletal than you’d like.

The Solution: Dermal Fillers

We use hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers for the safest, most natural results (they’re fully reversible!). Often, we start with cheek filler, which can instantly support the under-eye area. If cheek filler alone doesn’t completely address the hollowing, under-eye filler directly applied to the tear troughs can be a great solution for the right candidate. However, if you also have hyperpigmentation, puffiness, or crepey skin, dermal filler may not be the best treatment. Together, we can find the perfect solution that’s tailored to your unique anatomy. Cheek and under-eye fillers last 1-2 years, and results are immediate.

The Problem: Crow’s Feet

As we age, the skin around the eyes becomes less resilient, making it more susceptible to the muscle contractions that lead to crow’s feet.

The Solution: Wrinkle Reducers

We can inject wrinkle reducers to relax the orbicularis muscle surrounding the eye, which can make your eyes appear slightly larger and subtly lift the outer brow. These treatments block nerve impulses from reaching the muscle, smoothing fine lines and wrinkles. Results take about 1-2 weeks to fully take effect, and they typically last 3-4 months before a touch-up is needed.

The Problem: Dullness

Especially in the colder months, many New Yorkers notice that the delicate skin around their eyes appears less vibrant or bright.

The Solution: Infusion Treatment

For an instant brightening effect with zero downtime, we recommend Aquagold Infusion around the eyes. This treatment uses 24k gold needles to infuse a customized blend of vitamin C, hyaluronic acid-based filler, and wrinkle reducers into the skin. Vitamin C helps brighten dull skin, while filler provides lasting hydration and wrinkle reducers smooth fine lines under the eyes. Results are immediate and continue to improve over 1-2 weeks, lasting 4-6 weeks.
